Ten Mystery Regency Romances

by | May 24, 2023 | Recommended Reads

I’ll admit I love writing a good mystery especially if it involves bad guys and daring deeds. I also love reading them! So I’ve compiled a list including my favourite mystery Regency romances to read and write! I hope you find yourself some fab new reads today.

A history of scandal might be the only thing these opposites have in common…

Lady Ivy Musgrave wasn’t especially surprised when a case of mistaken identity led to her near ruination. After all, scandal seems to be her birthright. What did come as a shock, however, was the scarred, wounded soldier who came to her rescue…and her overwhelming attraction to him…

Lord Cillian Murphy had no desire to be anyone’s hero. But that didn’t mean he’d abandon the lovely Ivy in her time of need. Their arranged marriage was an obligation he’d just have to live with. Falling in love with his new bride, though, was entirely out of the question…

It’s not long before Ivy learns there’s more to her brooding husband than meets the eye—and Cillian learns that happily ever after with Ivy might be possible after all. But when an enemy from Cillian’s past threatens the delicate bonds he’s started to form with Ivy, can their marriage—and hearts—survive the fallout?

A traitor. A courtship. A scandalous Season.
In the race against time, will this pair reach the altar or the traitor first?

In the service of England’s spymaster (well, his niece, but surely he’ll appreciate the help), Miss Mary Wilson is on a mission to uncover a treasonous plot. Though her only clue leads to the debaucherous secret society of the Marquess of Hartford, a lifetime of being overlooked should ensure her access to all of the gossip her assignment will require. There’s just one problem: Mary is due to find a husband this Season and her Aunt Elizabeth, the Viscountess Hood, is determined to see her niece shine bright.

Focused on finding the perfect bride this Season, the Marquess of Hartford, known to his friends as Rex, finds himself distracted by the quiet Miss Wilson as she continually turns up everywhere she shouldn’t be. As Rex considers the misbehaving Miss Wilson, a curious thought occurs to him. Is it possible that she could be the kind of bride who would enjoy life by his side and the pursuits of the Society of Sin?

In this funny Regency romance series, the Shackleford sisters descend on a Regency society that doesn’t know what’s hit it…

Reverend Augustus Shackleford’s mission in life (aside from ensuring the collection box was suitably full every Sunday) was to secure advantageous marriages for each of his eight daughters. A tall order, given the fact that in the Reverend’s opinion they didn’t possess a single ladylike bone in the eight bodies they had between them. Quite where he would find a wealthy titled gentleman bottle headed enough to take any of them on remained a mystery and indeed was likely to test even his legendary resourcefulness. ….

Grievously wounded at the Battle of Trafalgar, Nicholas Sinclair was only recently returned to Blackmore after receiving news of his estranged father’s unexpected death. After an absence of twenty years, the new Duke was well aware it was his duty to marry and produce an heir as quickly as possible. However, tormented by recurring nightmares after his horrific experiences during the battle, Nicholas had no taste to brave the ton’s marriage mart in search of a docile obedient wife. …..

Never in his wildest dreams did Reverend Shackleford envisage receiving an offer for his eldest daughter from the new Duke of Blackmore. Of course, the Reverend was well aware he was fudging it a bit in describing Grace as respectful, meek or dutiful, nevertheless, he could never have imagined that his eldest daughter’s unruliness might end up ruining them all….

Warning: This book contains spies, scandals, naughty liaisons in houses of ill repute, men who think they know everything and women who know they do not.

Lady Lily Drummond understands only too well the danger of spy work. Her father, a preeminent master spy, has been missing for months, and her brother barely survived his final mission for the Crown. Lily is still determined to help find her father, no matter how hard her brother and his best friend try to keep her in the dark.

Busy trying to untangle the web of deceit surrounding the Earl of Windor’s disappearance, Crown spy Gray Masterson also has to ensure Lily Drummond, the gangly, awkward child who was his constant shadow growing up, doesn’t get herself ruined at her London debut. But the girl with scraped knees and elbows has evolved into a lush, sensual beauty surrounded by a bevy of suitors.

Realizing Lily is going to investigate on her own if he doesn’t let her join the hunt for her missing father, Gray assumes he can give Lily a few minor tasks to pacify her, but he quickly learns she is a valuable asset. Moreover, she fairly crackles with life and warmth—things he craves after his dark years in service.

Keeping her safe will be difficult, keeping a proper distance from her will be downright impossible.

There was one man Lady Emma vowed she would never marry.
The rakish Duke of Warwick — brother to her very best friend.

But one chance encounter on a balcony has Lady Emma questioning all she ever believed about the duke. When her friend — and the duke’s sister — is abducted, they must work together to find her, and determine who has been threatening the Remington family.

Since his father’s murder, Giles, the new Duke of Warwick, has been trying to right his father’s wrongs and discover who is threatening them. He is also searching for the perfect wife to improve his family’s reputation — a wife who could never be the outspoken Lady Emma, who prefers to spend her time digging in the gardens.

As the secrets and mysteries surrounding the family deepen, Giles and Emma find their lives intertwine more closely than ever before. Until one fateful act leaves them one choice — love or ruination.

Introducing the darkly handsome Earl of Rothay, imperious, straight-laced, and morally rigid.

Mr. Benedict Rutland gained his title far too young. With frivolous parents and the responsibility of a large family of younger siblings, he spent his youth clawing the family fortune back from the brink of bankruptcy.

Now a man in his prime and financially secure, he is betrothed to a strict, sensible and cool-headed woman who will never upset the balance of his life, let alone disturb his emotions… But then Miss Skeffington-Fox arrives.

Brought up solely by her rake of a step-father, Benedict is scandalised by everything about the dashing Miss. But as family members begin to die, and heirs in line for the dukedom fall away at an alarming rate, all fingers point at Benedict, and Miss Skeffington-Fox may be the only one who can save him.

But then she encounters the wickedly handsome and all too charming Rafe Landsbury, the Earl of Markham and against her better judgment, her interest is reluctantly aroused. An affair may be impossible to resist but dare she trust Lord Markham with her most intimate secrets… and her heart?

Society believes Rafe to be a diplomat but for many years he has been working on the Continent as a spy for the Crown. Leaving the shadowy world of espionage behind, he returns to London with the intention of finding a wife. When he is paired with the frosty yet fascinating Duchess of Darby at the piquet table during a ton ball, he is intrigued. Do-or-die man that he is, he’s certainly not going to let her cool demeanor dissuade him from pursuing her. When Rafe’s dark past returns to endanger Georgie, he is determined to protect her at all costs, even if that means hiding who he once was. With the stakes so high, both Georgie and Rafe must decide if love is a risk worth taking…

They have no choice but to break all the rules. Hopefully their hearts will avoid the same fate…
